A Producer is making you a mixtape
Real tapes. Real strangers. No algorithms. Just music, chosen for you by someone who doesn't know you yet.
The Process
Simple by design. Mysterious by nature.
Give us your name, address, and email. Answer three questions — pulled at random just for you. About a mood, a memory, a moment. Then wait.
A Producer is matched with you, randomly. They’ll see your three answers — and nothing else. That’s their brief.
A real cassette or CD. Curated track by track, for you specifically. They cover postage. They seal it up. They send it.
Press play. Someone, somewhere, thought about you while making this. That’s the whole thing.
About
Streaming is endless. Playlists are disposable. A mixtape — a real one, something you can hold — is a commitment. Someone sat with a blank tape and made choices. Every song is a decision.
And strangers, it turns out, can surprise you. They’re not trying to impress you or manage your opinion of them. They’re just listening to what you said, and responding with music.
Secret Mixtape is free. No subscriptions. Producers cover their own costs because they want to — because making a mixtape for a stranger is its own reward. We just make the introduction.
Questions
Everything you’re probably wondering.
Yes, completely. If you sign up as a Listener, it costs you nothing. If you sign up as a Producer, you cover the cost of the blank tape or CD and postage — that’s it. No subscriptions, no fees, no catch.
Only your matched Producer will see your mailing address. It’s not publicly visible, not stored longer than needed, and not shared with anyone else. Ever.
They’re pulled at random each time you sign up as a Listener — different every time. Your answers go directly to your Producer and are not stored on our end.
Yes. When you sign up — whether as a Producer or a Listener — you’ll indicate your format preference. We’ll do our best to match accordingly.
It depends entirely on the Producer and standard postage time. Typically expect a few weeks. Part of the joy is not quite knowing when it’ll arrive.
Absolutely. You can sign up as a Listener again after your current tape has been marked delivered. You choose your role each time — listen one round, make the next.
Someone is counting on you. Please don’t sign up as a Producer unless you intend to follow through. A Listener has shared their address and answers in good faith.
That’s up to the Producer. Some may leave a note inside. Some won’t. The mystery is part of the experience.
